Dog behavior problems can start at a very young age and can quickly get out of control if not taken care of early on. The primary factor to a happy coexistence with your dog may be a few easy training sessions. On the other hand, if you really do not learn to put an end to certain behaviors, your life together could be quite stressful.

Generally there are a lot of diverse types of training available for dog owners. From spray bottles and clickers to treats and training collars, you will find the options are many. If you are unsure of which method will work on your dog, consult the advice of a professional dog trainer. By thoroughly researching, you will be able to find a solution that is going to enhance how quickly your dog learns and put an end to the dog behavior problems.

Once you have chosen the method you are going to use, you have to make your dog understand that their training is not an option. While you want to reward the dog for good behavior with treats and kind words, totally ignoring a dog’s bad behavior is not going to make them understand that they must behave well. Instead, be sure you learn the proper way to discipline your dog by using the right tone of voice.

You will need to make your dog’s training sessions fun for them but it needs to be required as well. Providing them the extra attention may be all that it takes. However, some dogs need and want more action in their training. Combine the training with the activities your dog enjoys, such as long walk or run, and you will find your dog is more willing to learn the right behaviors.

Sadly, when dog behavior problems happen, they are usually dismissed. This can lead to the dog owner thinking there is no way their dog is ever going to behave and they often give up on the dog and some even end up in new homes. Instead of giving away your canine friend, learn how to put an end to their bad behavior. It may take some time to correct them, but once you do, you and your dog will be much happier.

So why do dogs bury bones?

We have two dogs that love to bury their bones, but one of them also buries his rawhide treats and some of his dog food. I was not sure why until I found out the reasoning behind it.

Ancient dogs survived on whatever they could find or catch. If they managed to get more than they could eat in a sitting, they had to make sure it would be there when they came back to it later.

“They stored spare food by burying it,” says Benjamin Hart, D.V.M., Ph.D., professor of physiology and behavior at the University of California School of Veterinary Medicine at Davis. “It was a pretty resourceful way of keeping leftovers.” Dirt may be gritty and hard on the teeth, but it is also protective.

The temperature in the ground is cooler than it is in the air, so burying food helped it stay fresh longer.

Buried food did not roast in the sun. It did not immediately get covered with flies and insect. All in all, burying food and juicy bones was a very good solution.

Dogs do not need to bury their food anymore. But when they have an excess of rations, they feel that old urge coming on. So they look for a secluded spot, dig a quick hole, and put some goodies away for a rainy day.
